UBC Biosciences Swing Life Safety Upgrades
Location of Project: University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C. Campus
Timeline: November 2014 – February 2015
The project involved an upgrade to the life safety requirements of a working/functioning laboratory. MRC Total Build had to create dust mitigation and develop a noise control plan to maintain the current conditions. The noise control was crucial to maintaining and not interfering with the active school and exam schedule while completing louder tasks such as coring and demolition. The scope included the replacement of all of the sinks, emergency eyewash stations, and fume hoods. Some of the required materials came from Germany, which posed a significant scheduling issue. Real-time supply tracking was key to making this project a timely success. MRC Total Build provided General Contracting services which required engaging multiple trades as well as self-performing items such as coring, framing, and drywall.
